Overall SiteLock Review

Our SiteLock review found that SiteLock is an excellent choice for comprehensive website security. While pricing models can be confusing, SiteLock’s exemplary customer service will walk you through which package is right for you. SiteLock markedly improves SEO and visitor trust. It also saves you valuable time.

SiteLock Review – Pros

  • Customer Service: SiteLock offers a team of U.S.-based support staff. Customer service works twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and three hundred sixty-five days a year. They are reachable by phone, email or live chat, so no matter when your site faces an attack, they are available to help. Our reviewers found SiteLock’s customer service to be extremely responsive and helpful.
  • Saves Time: At Shopper Reviews, we review other websites to ensure that our review takes a variety of perspectives into account, in addition to doing our own research and using the product ourselves. There are many negative reviews online about SiteLock, primarily claiming that shoppers can perform all of the functions SiteLock takes care of without paying the fees. While this may be true, our SiteLock review discovered that SiteLock saves website owners considerable time. They can then put back that time back into their website.
  • Improved SEO: SiteLock’s features certainly improve SEO quickly by improving page speed and saved bandwidth with the SiteLock CDN.
  • VPN Speed: Compared to other VPNs, our reviewers found SiteLock VPN to be much faster than competitors.
  • Improved Visitor Trust: Most shoppers recognize the SiteLock Trust Seal. Purchasing any SiteLock product gets you the security badge to include on your website, which increases conversion rates. It also helps shoppers feel comfortable inputting credit card information.

SiteLock Review – Cons

  • Confusing Pricing: SiteLock pricing is confusing, with some services included in their main package offerings while others are not. To help mitigate the confusion, we have included the features included in the three main package options in the descriptions below. Custom quotes are available if you reach out to SiteLock customer support.
  • Installation Time: SiteLock takes 24 hours to be fully installed on your website. While this isn’t a long time, for a website owner with an immediate need for SiteLock, 24 hours may be too long to wait.

SiteLock Product Options Review

SiteLock offers cybersecurity products and services that automatically find, fix, and prevent harmful cyber threats. With SiteLock, shoppers receive website scans to detect malware, automated malware removal, vulnerability patching, and a powerful web application firewall, depending on the custom security package selected.

SiteLock offers three main package options:

  • SecureStarter
  • SecureSpeed
  • SecureSite

The following products are available. As mentioned above, the three main package options include some of these products, and some are standalone products. See the detailed descriptions below for more information.

  • Website Scanning
  • Malware Removal
  • Web Application Firewall
  • Vulnerability Patching
  • PCI Compliance
  • DDOS Protection
  • Virtual Private Network

SiteLock Website Scanning

Website scanning products automatically check your site for malicious software and other harmful cyber threats. If SiteLock detects a virus or malware, the website owner receives an alert. SiteLock’s malware alert scans websites daily and searches for over 10 million threats. Also, it stops search engine blacklisting by alerting you to issues before they are detected by crawlers.

SiteLock’s Spam Scan scans your website’s IP address and domain name daily against multiple spam databases. It also alerts you to “bad neighbor” blocks. When a website shares an IP address with another domain sending spam on a shared hosting platform, all websites on that IP address are sometimes blocked. If SiteLock detects an issue, you’re notified immediately.

The Network Scan scans your website server for misconfigurations and open network ports. This ensured your hosting environment is secure. SiteLock’s Application Scan examines the server’s core applications monthly, including operating system, database and language versions such as PHP and MySQL. It checks for vulnerabilities in operating systems and application versions.

Finally, SiteLock’s Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) & SQL Injection (SQLi) Scan reviews website pages daily for XSS and SQLi vulnerabilities. Cybercriminals commonly use XSS and SQLi vulnerabilities to gain unauthorized access to your website.

All three package options include some level of scanning.

SiteLock VPN (Virtual Private Network)

VPNs (or Virtual Private Networks) allow users to initiate anonymous, encrypted browsing sessions over any network connection. SiteLock’s high-speed VPN allows you to rest assured that you are protected from prying eyes on public networks.

SiteLock VPN provides DNS leak protection, which is an extra layer of privacy that secures your initial connection to a website. There are no data restrictions or download caps. SiteLock’s IP lock feature ensures you are assigned a new IP address at random every time you use the VPN. Finally, SiteLock VPN does not track or store your browsing history or reveal what data you send.

Prices range from $9.99 per monthly license to one- and two-year licenses at discounted rates. This is not included in SiteLock regular pricing packages. Consequently, we recommend purchasing this separately.

Malware Removal

SiteLock Malware Removal automatically cleans malicious content from your website which creates a safe visitor experience. Website malware removal also enhances your website load speed, as sites infected with malware freeze and crash frequently. This means SEO improves for many websites, as page speed is a key factor in SEO.

SiteLock also offers its SiteLock Trust Seal to all customers, which increases visitor trust.

All three package options include SiteLock Malware Removal.

SiteLock Web Application Firewall

A web application firewall (WAF) protects your website and web applications from cyberthreats and harmful traffic, like cybercriminals and bad bots. A WAF is like having a force field around your site—it only lets good visitors in and keeps malicious ones out. Beyond protecting your website, your web application firewall comes with a content delivery network (CDN) proven to accelerate your website speed by as much as 50 percent.

SiteLock Web Application Firewall options include TrueShield Basic, TrueShield Professional, and TrueShield Premium. TrueShield Basic does not support SSL-enabled sites. As such, our SiteLock review found that most websites should purchase either Professional or Premium.

All three package options contain some level of firewall protection.

Vulnerability Patching

SiteLock Vulnerability Patching easily checks for website vulnerabilities in your CMS. A website vulnerability is a weakness in code that cybercriminals can exploit to gain unauthorized access to your site. SiteLock’s website vulnerability scanner easily detects these weaknesses.

Once SiteLock identifies website vulnerabilities, their vulnerability patching can automatically fix weaknesses in your content management system (CMS) before cybercriminals exploit them. Think of it like patching a hole in your wall. If there’s a vulnerability, SiteLock automatically patches it and your site remains secure.

Like many of SiteLock’s other features, SiteLock Vulnerability Patching protects SEO and increases site speed. It also provides the added benefit of saving time, since you can run updates on your own time as the security patch will be applied to your CMS when a new patch is released.

Importantly, automated WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal patching is only included in the highest-level package SiteLock offers.

PCI Compliance

SiteLock PCI DSS Compliance helps you quickly meet your PCI DSS requirements to protect your customers’ data. PCI DSS compliance is a set of security standards used to protect consumers’ credit card data online. Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) was established to help control where cardholder data is stored, processed, or transmitted. The SiteLock PCI compliance scan product is a fast and easy way to meet PCI requirements.

Any individual, merchant or business that stores, processes, or transmits payment card information needs to be PCI compliant. This includes companies that only take payments over the phone and companies that use a third-party payment processing system, like PayPal. If you don’t comply with PCI DSS, you may be subject to penalties and fines between $5,000 and $100,000 per month until you meet PCI compliance requirements.

SiteLock’s main package offering. does not include PCI DSS compliance. However, our SiteLock review recommends purchasing SiteLock PCI DSS Compliance even if you elect not to purchase their other products.

SiteLock DDOS Protection

SiteLock DDOS Attack Protection prevents DDOS attacks without impacting site performance or visitors. A DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack is a malicious attempt to make a website unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from thousands of sources.

Multiple computers on different networks send large amounts of data requests to your website all at once, which is a DDOS attack. This takes an immense toll on a website’s resources and processing capabilities—causing websites to slow down or crash. The longest DDOS attack in recent years was 297 hours–more than 12 days.

SiteLock’s three main package offerings do not include SiteLock DDOS Attack Protection. Therefore, we recommend reaching out for a quote.
